Cline
Cline is the open-source coding agent for VS Code. Harriet provisions your organization's skills and connectors into it, so developers get the same company knowledge in their editor that they have everywhere else.
How it works
- Skills land in Cline's personal skills folder. Cline loads one when your request matches what it does.
- Connectors land in Cline's MCP settings, routed through Harriet's proxy so tool calls use your organization's credentials and are audit-logged like every other surface.
Cline is additive. Turning it on does not replace a Cursor, Claude Desktop or Harriet Desktop option — a machine can run it alongside any of them.
Set it up
- Enable the target. Turn on Cline in Settings, or pick it during onboarding.
- Install the Harriet Endpoint agent on each machine and sign in. If a machine already runs it for another surface, there is nothing new to install.
- Reload VS Code once the device has checked in, so Cline picks up the new connectors.
If Cline is not installed on a machine, Harriet skips its connector settings entirely rather than creating an editor configuration directory that nothing owns. Your skills are still written, and appear as soon as Cline is installed.
Unlike GitHub Copilot, Cline stores its settings outside VS Code's profile system, so its connectors work the same whichever VS Code profile someone uses.
What Harriet manages — and what it leaves alone
Your own connectors and skills are preserved; Harriet merges its entries alongside them, and removing a device removes only what Harriet added. See removing a device.
Using Harriet as Cline's model provider
This is optional and manual. Cline keeps its provider settings inside VS Code's internal state and its API key in your operating system's keychain, so Harriet cannot set them for you.
To route Cline's model calls through Harriet — using your organization's BYOK keys or managed credits, with usage analytics and budgets applying — copy the OpenAI base URL, API key and model names from either the device in Endpoint AI (Connect Cline to the Harriet gateway) or Harriet Endpoint on the machine (under Agents, Cline's ⋮ menu → LLM gateway URL). Enter them in Cline under API Provider → OpenAI Compatible.
Uncheck Cline under Agents in Harriet Endpoint if you do not want Harriet to apply skills and connectors on this machine.
