What employee analytics questions can Harriet answer for admins and managers?

Example prompts for workforce analytics and what you need before they work reliably.

When employee analytics is enabled and you have the right permissions, you can ask Harriet for aggregated workforce insights grounded in your connected directory or HRIS data.

Example questions

  • “How many active employees do we have in {country}?”
  • “List employees in {department} hired in the last 90 days.”
  • “What is headcount by {location}?”
  • “Show {job family} counts for {region}.”

Phrase questions specifically: name the filter (country, department, team, tenure window) you care about.

Rolling date windows in workflows

For scheduled workflows that need a reproducible cohort each run (for example “employees who started between one month and one month plus seven days ago”), you can embed Harriet’s compact relative date syntax in the agent prompt so the model passes it through to analytics filters instead of calculating calendar dates:

  • Anchors: $today, $yesterday, $last_week, $last_month, $last_year, and similar.
  • Optional chained offsets after the anchor: + or -, a number, then d (days), w (weeks), m (months), or y (years).
  • Example weekly window: start_date greater than or equal to $today-1m-7d and start_date less than $today-1m.

The server resolves these expressions on each run, so the same workflow instructions stay valid week after week. Align your schedule with your expected business day; runs very close to midnight may resolve $today differently from runs earlier the same calendar day.

Prerequisites

  • HRIS or directory integration connected and syncing.
  • Reporting-oriented fields populated in your source system (whatever your HR team uses for org reporting).
  • Your user has analytics permission and is within any metadata scope your admins configured.

Example

An HR partner asks: “How many people report into Engineering in Germany?” Harriet returns a count and breakdown if those attributes exist and your access allows that population.

Guardrails

  • Analytics is for authorized HR and admin use unless your organization explicitly extends it—do not share sensitive breakdowns in public channels.
  • If the assistant says it cannot answer, check sync freshness, field mapping, and whether the attribute exists in your HRIS.
