Skills and external tools (MCP)

How optional skills extend Harriet, how MCP connectors are governed, and how Endpoint AI review fits in for some organizations.

Skills bundle tools the assistant can use when they are enabled for a channel or conversation.

Built-in vs configured

  • Some capabilities are built in (for example, help with company documents or product guidance).
  • Your team may enable additional skills that call external systems.

MCP connectors

  • MCP (Model Context Protocol) connections are created in Company settings as connectors; they let Harriet use approved third-party tools through those skills.
  • IT should review which MCP servers are allowed, which credentials they use, and which user groups may invoke them. Start from How to create an MCP connector (Company settings).

Endpoint AI and review

  • Organizations with Endpoint AI may route new connectors and package skills through a review queue before broad assignment.
  • Authors on endpoints can use the Skilify flow to submit package skills for review, then admins provision approved skills—see Using Skilify to build skills locally, submit for review, and provision them.

Governance

  • Prefer least privilege: enable skills only where needed.
  • Revisit skill assignments when teams change.
